What do mean by nuclear war? As in one side launches a nuclear strike followed by another side doing the same?
Yep. Which in the case of Iran and Israel would invoke WW III, I assume. Not that it would necessarily have to begin with nukes, but...
Given your default skepticism of all official explanations, why do you believe Iran to be as far along in a nuclear development program, and one that can used for weapons development, as the US and Israel say?
The big trick is: do they have effective means to deploy said nukes.
One of the tricks, anyway. Given the song and dance over Iraq's non-existent WMD's and that the neocons have been jonesing to get back at Iran for some thirty years, I'm curious at the lack of skepticism towards these claims.

Ha! Excellent. You're right I don't believe and you've made me feel somewhat more safe - thank you. Truly. Iran is admittedly a lot closer than Iraq was though, and if Iran develops other countries in the region no doubt will proceed as well. And it wouldn't take all that long for someone like Iran to develop an actual nuclear weapons program, is my understanding, which brings us back to the poll questions I suppose. Then there's the dirty bomb thing, which are easier to obtain/develop and would most likely open the door. US policing the development of nuclear programs in other countries like Iran is scary because the US believes it doesn't need evidence of a program to begin bombing and start a war, as it has recently shown, and once a war begins it's hard to stop. It's not just the US, however; Israel has nukes and Iran knows it.

Whereas others have suggested that they are a still quite a ways away due to a lack of both technical expertise and resource access.

All of which suggests that a wiser course is not to escalate tensions in the region, giving all these nations a reason to pursue such destructive weapons, and seek to de-escalate tensions. The best part about Bush's sabre-rattling with Iran's hardliners was that the latter were falling out of favour with a population that is a lot more moderate and desirous of more secularism in their life than their leaders. But all it takes is one retard who is willing to act as the Great Foreign Threat for people to stand behind their government at any cost. So, yeah, bomb Iran and turn those moderates into definite enemies.

It's either that or something to do with sheep—101's a two-trick pony.

You know if you roll up a wet towel and flick it hurts like fuck if it hits you and, if you did it at school you got in serious shit for doing it with claims you could take someones eye out or if you hit them in the chest you could kill them !!!!!!
Well Imagine if you got something much larger than a towel then obviously the danger / damage would increase !! Larger still and we are talking shock and awe on weapons of mass destruction scale right ?
Now the best place to hide something is right under the eyes of the person looking for it. Now take a look at Iraq, where could you hide such weapons of mass destruction ??
On every Iraqi's fucking head !!!!!!

It's sometimes hard to tell your sarcasm, but you also (as far as I can tell) rarely contradict yourself so I guess it can be found in the last sentence as opposed to the first. Or maybe it's just the Canadian spelling of saber and favor that I find confusing. Anyway, I now have the song "Bomb Iran," sung to the tune of Beach Boys' Barbara Ann, in my head; it hasn't been there since, well, 1979ish.

Sorry for the change of tone mid-post. Everything but the first sentence should have Mr. Rolly-Eyes spinning his orbs. I am unambiguously opposed to the current American foreign policy, especially with regards to the Middle East.

They shouldn't bomb the cities or the people, but they should bomb the nuke facilities they are building. Iran is a terror sponsoring state that is currently supplying weapons that kill U.S. soldiers and they want Israel and the U.S. wiped off the planet. They must not get nukes at all costs. Iran has been trying to get the U.S. into a war since '79 and they certainly deserve an ass kicking but I don't think there will be an all out war with them unless they aren't stopped from getting nukes and they end up using them on Israel. I doubt the U.S. even has the guts to bomb the nuke facilities. Israel will most likely bomb the nuke facilities at some point if the U.S. doesn't step up. Israel doesn't really have the bombers to do it, they have fighter jets not bombers. I'm also not sure if their fighters have the range to attack them and make it back.
Hot take.

It's interesting to see this thread 13 years later. I don't even remember what was going on in Iran in 2008, but thankfully, a more peaceful resolution at least temporarily occurred.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.
