Hi Kory. Was it you who recommended Bohren & der Club of Gore – Sunset Mission a few years ago? In this thread I think. If so, thanks for the recommendation. I noticed it some time ago while passing through looking for some new music. I’d say I’ve listened to the whole album over a thousand times since then and have yet to tire of it. Fantastic stuff. I frequently let it play all day and all night just for background noise. It’s so mellow and smoky, with kind of a weird Blade Runner soundtrack vibe. I’ve had it on all day today.
Hey! Yeah, that could have been me, though I think Flex also likes them, if I'm not mistaken. Glad you like it! It's really good for a rainy day, I can tell you that much.
Ah, found it. Looks like you mentioned it way back in Sept. 2016. So thanks.
I've also had a habit of playing Durutti Column - Another Setting on repeat lately for some reason. Very calming and seems to fill the same background niche for me.
I'll thank Flex for Amyl and the Sniffers though.
Cripes was it really that long ago? Where the hell is my life going?
Trick Or Treat (Music To Scare Your Neighbours - Vintage 45’s From Lux And Ivy’s Haunted Basement)
This shit is the bee's knees, as one would expect.
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead
Star, Violence Against Star. New album from one of my favourite recent finds, a noise-pop band from Chicago. It's everything I would have hoped it might be.

Wow yeah that looks excellent. Thanks for the link. I've only listened to around half a dozen DC albums so far but have been totally into it lately.
Right now I'm listening to The Orb/Lee Perry - More Tales from the Orbservatory. It's usually one of my go to albums for spending an hour snowblowing the driveway/walks in the winter, but it's doing the trick just fine right now.

I'll check that out, sounds like a good team up. I'm only familiar with Orbus Terrarum—my interest in Orb-based electronic music centers mostly on Orbital.
Also been listening to the Tears for Fears Seeds of Love deluxe reissue. Hardly ever play the original CD, but the extra versions etc make for a good listen. I need to resist buying it because I would probably play it once and never listen to it again.
I've never been able to get into that one. I think Curt Smith left the band about halfway through recording, and to my mind, something about that shows.
I read that he was going through a divorce and spending a lot of time in the States, so wasn’t involved very much. Also he announced he was leaving the band before the tour, so that probably didn’t make for a great time. I don’t think there was any fall out, just a change in circumstances. I have definitely enjoyed listening to the extra discs and have bitten the bullet and ordered the box set. Apologies to the late, great Hellboy.
Elvis Costello - Hey Clockface. I've had just one listen to this and it's not my favorite style of Elvis. The singles he released earlier were exciting as they had some different touches for Elvis (modern production effects on No Flag, Hetty O'Hara; ragtime on Hey Clockface) so I was excited for the release. The album as a whole lacks energy. I like Elvis with some energy or rage - this seems mournful. There's 2 spoken word tracks. At this point in his career Elvis has earned the right to make albums that make him happy or pleased- but this one could use more of the anger and energy of No Flag throughout for me. Elvis could release 10 more albums of Phil Collins covers and he'd still be one of my favorite artists. I'll go back and listen to Momofuku. This is the best track (in my opinion) on Hey Clockface:

I think it's a solid record. "No Flag" is indeed great but I wouldn't want a whole album of that style from Elvis now. He's capable of creating lots of styles with his stamp on things. If I want the energy and anger the early albums are there for me and can't be beaten. This current album doesn't hit me immediately but I can hear there will be tracks that will grow on me with repeated plays.

Karen O and Willie Nelson covering "Under Pressure." I think this is well done. It's not trying to duplicate Mercury's vocal acrobatics impact, but really highlights the great melodies.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.
Anybody listen to the new Momus yet? I bought it but it hasn’t arrived yet.
Used to love Momus—and still like his 20th c stuff—but when he started putting out records that sounded like plinking on an old casio, I lost interest. Is that still his sound?

I'm not sure what you mean by old casio. His most recent albums have been sample-based but very high quality sample libraries.
I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

I've studied the phenomenon of neo-provincialism in self-isolating online communities but this place takes the fucking cake.

Okay, then that's different, and so I'll have to investigate. What I meant by plinkining on a casio was it sounded sort of like a harpsichord but on an old electronic keyboard.
