Still mad about that superior Desolation Row cover eh?
The Mighty Musical Observations Thread
Re: The Mighty Musical Observations Thread
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

I have a soft spot for the 90s stuff. Sunny Day Real Estate, Promise Ring, Cap N Jazz, etc...Flex wrote: ↑05 May 2021, 2:17pmI saw that yesterday, good article on the current ska revival.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑05 May 2021, 2:12pmSpeaking of ska, its detractors, and defenders: https://music.avclub.com/if-emo-can-be- ... 1846778697
but, also, i think it makes a fairly obvious error in the title suggesting emo has been "rehabbed" in any ways. Awful genre.
They were much more punk and less polished than the stuff that followed though.

I'd expect a lot more understanding of the distinct ways that that the first and second wave were incredible on this site in particular.

All this Ska just keeps coming across me in waves.

We played the aftershow party a couple of years back with XSLF. I think we're probably not "punk" enough for the main bill.

A long time ago, when I was hired to do research for a prof, I was reading Variety for its early coverage of rock n roll. I came across a piece that argued among rock n roll's dangers to the nation was … poor fuel efficiency in cars. Teenage drivers, consumed by the jungle rhythms of that sinister musick, would tap their feet while driving, causing the car's fuel flow to be unsteady. I assume that it all ends with the hammer and sickle flown above the White House.revbob wrote: ↑11 May 2021, 9:15pmListening to Metal Makes You Fat, Study Says
