What do you all think? Is Heston wrong, per usual?
I'm not much of a fan of "Freedom 90" but I think "Faith" is great.
Yeah, Faith is good. Wake Me Up Before You Go Go is fun.
I hate faith but Go Go is poptastic.
I hate Faith as well, some Wham stuff was good and I like "Praying For Time" from George's solo career. What I mainly hate about George Michael is he pronounces some words in this exaggerated style. In Freedom 90 it's that bit when he sings "please don't give uuuurp." Loads of similar instances in Faith.
I don't care at all for George's vocals on Faith but it's damned hard for me not to like the tune especially as it's a complete rip-off from The Cure's "Close to Me" which is great.

That makes me dislike Faith even more!!
Close To Me is a great song I agree but I hate the vocals and even more so the lyrics on Faith.

Nah, very different chord progressions. They just both kinda use the Bo Diddley beat (Faith explicitly does, Close to me somewhat less so) which just means that The Cure ripped the feel off from someone else.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

The Bo Diddley beat was too obvious for me to mention as they both clearly owe a debt. But it's the bass lines that are so similar.

But the bass is just rhythmically based around the Bo Diddley beat. I don't know how you'd base a song around that beat and not have the bass part be similar rhythmically without getting really creative.
For example:
Same as the other bass parts, the fill is on an early beat of the second measure, but largely similar.

The bass on The Stones track you uploaded just follows traditionally the bo diddley guitar shuffle. But the bass on The Cure track is the main melody being followed by the keys. I don't hear any guitar on The Cure track.
