For me it's Sonic Youth's Teen Age Riot, since 1989. Every time I hear it I want to jump out of my skin and fly.

10 Greatest British Albums (NOT by The Beatles) released between January 1, 1965 and December 31, 1969. You don't have to list them in any order - just the 10 best albums released by British bands during the second half of the decade. Also - you can only pick 2 albums per band.

1) Beggars Banquet - The Rolling Stones
2) Something Else - The Kinks
3) Odessey & Oracle - The Zombies
4) The Who Sell Out - The Who
5) Village Green - The Kinks
6) Astral Weeks - Van Morrisson
7) Piper at the Gates of Dawn - Pink Floyd
8) Between the Buttons - The Rolling Stones
9) Mr. Fantasy - Traffic
10) Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake - Small Faces

I really thought about adding Dusty in Memphis - but it's such an American sounding album - so I'm adding it as an honorable mention.

01. The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society - The Kinks
02. The Who Sell Out - The Who
03. Small Faces (Immeadiate Album) - Small Faces
04. Arthur (Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire) - The Kinks
05. My Generation - The Who
06. We Are Paintermen - The Creation
07. Aftermath - The Rolling Stones
08. Piper at the Gates of Dawn - Pink Floyd
09. Ogdens Nut Gone Flake - Small Faces
10. S.F. Sorrow - The Pretty Things

Any of the 3 Deviants albums come close.

I agree with the 5 highlighted. I would add Tommy and A Quick One by the Who, Let It Bleed by the Stones, Move by the Move, and Something Else by the Kinks. Loads of other great singles bands from the 60s but the albums were often patchy rush jobs.

Do you know I always think of "Let It Bleed" as a 70s album. Released December 1969.

You should get a job working for Rolling Stone. You know, that magazine that voted LC the best album of the 80s. ;)

Well the only difference is I know that "Let It Bleed" is a 60s album but the sound of that album always feels like a 70s record. Rolling Stone couldn't afford me. ;)

I had a tough time only picking 2 albums by the Kinks. Arthur didn't make the cut - but if not for my only 2 per band rule it would have made my list.

Oh, I missed the bit about the 2 per band rule. I'll replace A Quick One and Something Else by the Kinks with 2 Equals albums, "Sensational" and "Strikes Again".

Try some of the recommended albums. Village Green is the king of them all.

I know I've listened to Arthur before, I thought that was pretty good.
