I don't listen to LC that much anymore, which is a bit strange because he always sounds like a modest and cool and thoughtful guy. There's just an emotionally calming quality to him.

I went through a pretty big LC phase around 2012 - bought all of his records and so on...but I also don't listen that much anymore and I'm not sure why. His music is enjoyable and yes - calming. Last record I picked up was "Standards" in 2013 - which I really liked. I might give him a listen tomorrow.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑21 Aug 2019, 3:03pm

Listening to his Negatives album now. He really is the epitome of "adult alternative"—neither sufficiently commercial nor edgy—but he just plain sounds like a solid dude. It's a weird quality to ascribe to a voice and music, but I listen to him and think he's someone who'd be a great guy to talk with about living a good life.WestwayKid wrote: ↑21 Aug 2019, 6:06pmI went through a pretty big LC phase around 2012 - bought all of his records and so on...but I also don't listen that much anymore and I'm not sure why. Lloyd is great. I've bought both the Commotions and his solo box sets. Some excellent stuff on those.

I used to love Ride. Well, up to Carnival of Light, when they decided they wanted to be Buffalo Springfield or something like that. But those early records are sharp as razors. "Like a Daydream" is a perfect song from young assholes in the garage. This one … I dunno, it's sweet? It's enjoyable enough and I can see myself playing it again because I'll remember that I thought it was enjoyable, but nothing specific will stick in my memory.

My neck's better now, thanks.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

The 3CD version of this album looks great too and also great value.

Re: What Are you Listening to Right Now?
Smithsonian/Folkways archivist John Cohen described hearing this guy's voice as akin to sitting right up front in the club at a Coltrane gig. Extraordinarily haunting and haunted, spectral and raw as a human skeleton, all recorded on his front porch in the mountains of east Kentucky - some of the most emotionally powerful and direct music I've ever heard. Along with Otis, my favorite male singer ever.

Forgot how good this album was, this song especially is dynamite.
Re: What Are you Listening to Right Now?
I'd say this is underrated but I realized I don't know how popular they are/were.
