This is all my parents have, so it's all I drink.
I've had the Stella Artois before though...it's bloody strong for a lager.

i can't bring myself to drink bud/miller/coor products :p i won't drink at all if that's all they have at parties or such. lately at get togethers tho, someone keeps on bringing harpoon bottles (i'm tired of IPA's), and some battery acid alcoholic energy drink called sparxx or something like that. i have to go make someone get me something i like then hide it so they don't drink it all up. (the main names- XXXX, strongbow, stella, harp, guinness, red stripe, boddingtons, moosehead, pilsner urquel, newcastle, tecate, and a bunch of other diff. ciders and ales that i wont bother to list.)
i wish we could get some tooheys here.

Amen, brother. And quite reasonably priced in most places, might I add. Their other varieties are wonderful as well...Wolter wrote:Unibroue hasn't let me down yet. Although it's hard for me to move beyond La Fin du Monde. I love that stuff.
A friend turned me on to Piraat over the holidays- good stuff. La Chouffe, too, despite its having gnomes on the bottle.
That being said, a business associate brought a belated holiday gift up to work today- a 12 pack of 'Miller Chill', a new slightly lime-flavoured beer. Not a big fan, but drinking free alcohol at work is ALWAYS welcome. It wouldn't have mattered if it was friggin' Zima or Grain Belt, for chrissake. It was kinda good in that we had to stay late, the womenfolk left the building, so we cranked up The Stooges and drank more.
Not bad for a Tuesday.

I just drink whatever's the cheapest at the time. Means that at the moment I'm getting through a fair whack of Carlsberg (it's a nothing beer) when I'm down the pub, snakebite at nightclubs and at least three bottled Becks a night if I'm indoors.
If I'm in a hurry when I'm out it's whiskey and brandy all the way.

I tend to lean mostly towards stouts and porters. A good red or amber ale is also always welcome. I prefer not to drink beer if all that is available is sucky beer. Heineken seems to be making a comeback and was exclusively available at some holiday parties that I attended recently. I usually politely decline but every so often I'll say sure and have one of these vile brews and I am ALWAYS disappointed and regretful, the shit is just awful.
I came across this stuff while in the southwest a few years back:
For the most part I patronize the local breweries whenever possible. This is one of my usual beers, along with their "Rainbow Red" ale. Good stuff but I'm pretty sure you can't find it too far from Vermont.
I have certain rules regarding beer:
1) No green or clear bottles, they promote skunkage. Some people aren't even aware of this and believe that the skunky flavor is how it should taste.
2) No cans, very few quality brewers can their beer.
3) The beer, when viewed in a clear glass, should not closely resemble nor be confused with urine in any way.
I apologize if I have offended anyone's beer related sensibilities.

Re: Thread O'Beer REVIVED!
I like lagers more than I'd care to admit. But not so much American ones.
My rules are:
1. No green bottles. Except for Tennent's. For some reason I love that beer.
2. Though it is true that cans are usually a dead giveaway for a lack of quality brewing, I will add this codicil: if I am drinking genuinely cheap-assed beer, I prefer cans. PBR and Old Style are not improved by glass bottles. If anything, the metallic taste of canned beer improves them.
3. If someone else is buying, there are no rules.

This is basically right. Sam Adams ran some ads a couple years ago about how green bottles are bad for beer so it seems pretty well known now at least.Wolter wrote: My rules are:

Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Yet so many foreign (in relation to the US) beers still come in green bottles and I am sure in some people's minds it signifies "quality" as well.matedog wrote:This is basically right.
