I do it every time for Steve Lynch because he's the most fucking useless "Fox News Democrat" in all of New England. I feel envious of my old precinct in Cambridge where Mike Capuano--a legit consistently progressive vote, albeit somewhat of an establishment player--got taken down from the left by a young-and-hungry Ayanna Pressley in the primary while this centrist concern-trolling stick in the mud goes completely unopposed year after fucking year. I'm not even sure Lynch would know what to do if he had an actual challenger except whine "No-fair!" about it, so can we please get some of that establishment-punching primary action in the Southie-to-South Shore district pretty please??? :disshame:
Lynch is a greasy grifter in the model of Finneran and Bulger. Look at how his district conveniently avoids anyone but White Irish Catholics. It tip toes around Blue Hill Ave. from Dorchester all the way out to Randolph (note Blue Hill Ave. is the heart of Black Boston).

That is some Illinois 4th District level gerrymandering.

I wrote in my dog Scout for St. Louis County Council because a republican was running unopposed. In 2008, the guy to the left got 20 votes for Missouri State Auditor.

Well, we did sort of invent gerrymandering here. Here's a cartoon from 1812.

We have this ancient white man who has ruled WI-5 for decades and decades...basically based in the affluent counties to the north of Milwaukee. I was knocking on doors in West Allis - which is a very working class suburb of Milwaukee this past weekend and was surprised that due to gerrymandering - this old white man was know their representative. They've taken the very blue WI-4 and condensed it down just to cover the city of Milwaukee itself. The northern suburbs have been given to the old white guy - who is bolstered by a solid core of red voters to the north and the southern suburbs (including mine) were given up to the horrid Paul Ryan - bolstered by the affluent counties to the southwest. It's really bad in Wisconsin. Democrats pretty much swept the night - except in the state legislature and the house - and I think a lot of that is because they've drawn the maps so they can't lose. Very frustrating.

It's a curious thing that American elections, from the beginning to the present, have been dominated by efforts to deny the vote or at least skew it to meaninglessness, whether thru gerrymandering, Jim Crow laws, voter id restrictions, and old fashioned goon work, yet Canada, still bound by the horseshit of monarchy, is a lot more straightforward. Not perfect by any means and with a history of all the above malignancies, but less of an active suppression of popular will than in the US.

Gerry was the first person to represent MA-3...but his successors (there were apparently 2 of them) have some of the best old time white folk names ever: Shearjashub Bourne and Peleg Coffin Jr.!

When you're born into a name like that, you're destined to rape and/or murder a servant, and the worst thing that will happen is a minor scandal for being unseemly about it.

I’m mildly offended that Beaneater would assume I, a man who loves both old cartoons and cartoonish corruption, wouldn’t know the origins of “gerrymander.” ;)
