I think he'd spell it "sceptical," which is reason enough.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑08 Nov 2018, 7:47amSo this reboot is supposed to make all of Heston's posts better? I'm skeptical.

I've been noticing a lot more of the single quotes among the younger generation lately too. I don't get it.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑08 Nov 2018, 2:08pmThat spelling steps on my nerve endings. My students do it constantly (but, then, so do a lot of academic clients). If there's a consistency, it's that stuff that you're definitely quoted properly uses doubles, but if it's in the textual form of air quotes, they use singles. It's so common and the distinction fairly clear that I can only assume it's being taught at the secondary level.Kory wrote: ↑08 Nov 2018, 2:25pmI've been noticing a lot more of the single quotes among the younger generation lately too. How do those of us that are no longer in school keep up with things like this? Just be glad that it's not part of your job description to do battle with that crap. I want to talk with students about thinking more boldly, not explain over and over the difference between a footnote reference and a bibliographic one. But guess which one occupies more of my comments in papers?Kory wrote: ↑08 Nov 2018, 3:45pmHow do those of us that are no longer in school keep up with things like this? Thank you, Canadian overloads, for telling me that I'm not allowed to watch that. Great song, the best thing Genesis ever did. How anyone can deny that is a top tune is beyond me.101Walterton wrote: ↑08 Nov 2018, 3:48pmJust to it homeDr. Medulla wrote: ↑08 Nov 2018, 3:20pmI'm glad I don't get the reference.101Walterton wrote: ↑08 Nov 2018, 3:16pmYep should have listened to Phil Collins he was ahead of his time!!!Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑08 Nov 2018, 12:16pmAKA the online version of "turn if off and on again" or "is it plugged in?"
