What's up with "Radar"? Isn't this the same recording on Rock Art?
The 'Radar' version is, I'm pretty sure, the original release which only saw light on a very rare CD called Sandpaper Blues. This was only released in Japan to accompany an art exhibition of that name, featuring wooden carvings by artist Gordon McHarg, Joe's pal who is now the chief archivist of his works and helped compile the new box set. I think when the Rock Art album was put together, this track was then reworked/remixed slightly, possibly for copyright reasons cos Joe and Richard Norris had parted company by then.

Coming out of the woodwork to post...probably been 7 or more years since my last post.

Jumped on this set right away. Liking it a lot so far, but couldn’t help but notice Trash City sounds like a 128KPS master source. Anyone else know what’s up with it? Surely there’s a vinyl source they could have used on this one.

Here's a non-Chef'd up version of "It's A Rockin World"

Lossless quality, extended intro, no crowd noise, no Chef singing, and no brickwalled compression. Fucking glorious.

It came from a studio reference CD-R of an early copy of the South Park "Chef Aid" album.

I've got this version on a cdr somewhere but buggered if I could find. So this upload is much appreciated and it slays the version on the box.

I would love to hear this version! I wondered who was doing the backing vocals & whether it was him from the Latino Rockabilly War.

Clash demos

I am beginning to think that all these demos are pre Lucky 8 (Nov 1983).

1) They are much more basic than Lucky 8 demos. This is England, Pouring Rain, Before We Go Forward (Nov 83 = Backwoods Drive)
2) We are The Clash has a good month by month account of the Clash and there is no reference to tapes in July 1984. The band are clicking their heels waiting. The next tape to appear is the end of August and is the 3 or 4 mariachi tracks recorded by Joe (with Kosmo there) in LA.

Thanks for this. As cool as it seems in theory for Isaac Hayes and Strummer to be harmonizing, I always found it to be distracting. It prevents me from separating the song from the show/the characters. So it's not Isaac Hayes singing, it's Chef. That sort of thing. They should have used this version. Thanks for posting.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Thanks slick.

It is interesting that all the promotion material for 001 mentions the many years put into recovering curio recordings from sheds and what-have-you, but they seemed to miss obvious stuff like this.

Feel a bit daft here.... Order the whole thing, and got the double cd and vinyl, but no 7". So still short of the 7" with "This is England" and "Before we go forward". The cassette is also a no show...So short of the demo version of "US North" and "Full Moon". Anybody experience the same?
