What's up with "Radar"? Isn't this the same recording on Rock Art?
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.
I don't really have preference I like 'em both equally. I think it's great they went for version that wasn't already available.
The version they used is also on the Pogues box set...
Ah okay I didn't realize. I have a download of that Pogues set ans it's a bit too repetitious to get a lot of plays. I always play the albums way more.
Forces have been looting
My humanity
Curfews have been curbing
The end of liberty
We're the flowers in the dustbin...
No fuchsias for you.

I think it's a different mix and longer.
There's also acoustic lead guitar bits in the X-Ray version and more percussion in the box set mix.
Yes you are correct mate but I do think they are the same track just with extra add ons and different mixes. At least that's how it appears to me. I think the RadaR (aka Machine) stuff was with Richard Norris and then reworked by the Meskies.

There is an X-Ray Style demo on the 2 disc Generations boot that to my ears sounded pretty much like the official version. Maybe that's it? I might try to dig it out if no one has it.

Oh yeah, just a remix with touch ups by the Meskies, not a reworked version.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

The 'Radar' version is, I'm pretty sure, the original release which only saw light on a very rare CD called Sandpaper Blues. This was only released in Japan to accompany an art exhibition of that name, featuring wooden carvings by artist Gordon McHarg, Joe's pal who is now the chief archivist of his works and helped compile the new box set. I think when the Rock Art album was put together, this track was then reworked/remixed slightly, possibly for copyright reasons cos Joe and Richard Norris had parted company by then.
