I've shared this story before, but Eric Idle has talked about dealing with the Beatles w/r/t the Rutles. George, of course, was in on it, so he loved it all. Ringo said he liked the early stuff, but not the last bits because it reminded him of the feuding and end of the Beatles. John also loved it—including, I guess, the portrayal of Yoko as a Nazi—but advised they alter a few of the songs because Paul's lawyers would sue the fuck out of them. And Paul? Idle said he was seated at his table at some banquet or somesuch and while Paul put on a good show of saying he found the movie funny and all, it was clear that he did not appreciate the Beatles being made sport of. In all, all four reacted as you'd think.Marky Dread wrote: ↑04 Sep 2018, 5:28pmYeah that seems about right. I find Paul's attitude towards it very arrogant especially after they were seemingly happy with the mickey taking of the Yellow Submarine animation. I think it has more to do with him being precious over his music than a personal comedic thing.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑04 Sep 2018, 5:44pmI've shared this story before, but Eric Idle has talked about dealing with the Beatles w/r/t the Rutles. Paul is the world's biggest Beatles fan. He's protective of the legacy and the myth. I love that about him—he truly cares about how people regard the band—but I also roll my eyes at the possessiveness toward something that is was also made by generations of fans. But given how almost contemptuous John and George could be toward Beatles fans, I'm fine with Paul's somewhat humourlessness.Marky Dread wrote: ↑04 Sep 2018, 6:03pmI find Paul's attitude towards it very arrogant especially after they were seemingly happy with the mickey taking of the Yellow Submarine animation. If the Beatles had sold perhaps 1 million less records, Ringo would be merchandising like Kiss and touring like Mike Love. And I wouldn't hold it against him.

I have zero interest in hearing him sing—even his Beatles songs are mostly only tolerable—but he's a Beatle. They're contribution to human culture is assured to such a degree that he deserves happiness in whatever he does.Silent Majority wrote: ↑04 Sep 2018, 6:56pmIf the Beatles had sold perhaps 1 million less records, Ringo would be merchandising like Kiss and touring like Mike Love. In the end, the Beatles were rock and roll clowns. Vote Stones.

George really had the best sense of humor out of all of them, right? I still love the bit on SNL when Lorne tries to get them to reunite by paying George $3,000 - and you can pay Ringo less if you want.
Got a Rake? Sure!
