Reading your compromised spelling has me imagining you seriously burned or bit your tongue.

More seriously, if you don't want to absorb that kind of crazy hit, couldn't you invest in a cheap bluetooth keyboard as a workaround. Admittedly a bit clumsy, but it would be much cheaper until you're ready to just get a new laptop altogether.

Yeah, I'm gonna pick up a cheapo wired USB one for Serious Writing. The current system, while not ideal, is fine for browsing and movies and stuff.

It occurs to me that you could use this phrase to describe almost any aspect of contemporary politics and culture.

I've been a Mac user since around '91. The differences between Mac and Windows in terms of ease of use used to be more obvious and justified the price gap (for me, anyway), but at this point I'm a Mac user because that's what I'm trained as. It's not superior so much as familiar. Still, Apple merits being broken up. Way, way too much influence and control in the communications sector.

But most users just do web, word processing, spreadsheets, watching and or listening to music, movies etc. and even most of that other stuff is web based. Nothing you cant do on a decent windows or linux machine at a fraction of the price. Granted linux is a bit tougher for the average person and if I were to get a computer for my mom it would be a mac.

You're right, but I'm just plain used to Macs. That may be irrational or an inefficient use of my money, but I guess it's the extra cost I'll pay to maintain comfort. Mind you, I've skipped the last couple OS overhauls, partly because they always slow down anything but the most recent generation of computers plus they always fuck up something I liked the way it was. So until I get a new Mac in several years, I can avoid that. In essence, I've become an old person who just wants things to work the way they always did and grumble about change. (But I've also mused about a Chromebook for my next laptop, so I'm not completely fossilized.)

The woman who played Andrea Zuckerman from Beverly Hills 90210 is at my office right now. She's the president of SAG/AFTRA and is going around the country stumping for pro-union candidates and initiatives. Since we are one of the lead organizations against a union busting bill in MO, we are hosting them meeting. And my bitch of a boss won't let us attend.

ETA - I don't really care about meeting a d-list actor. I'm annoyed because my boss treats us like shit and she is hosting this event on workers' rights.
