One of the reasons I need to leave West Michigan is the fact that I heard “We Built This City” THREE TIMES TODAY.

Sadly the UK version, not the Japanese version, so no Cost of Living advert! However what a great box set. The London Calling and Mag 7 discs are brilliant mini albums in their own right.

Somehow I'd never heard of Fire Party until watching Salad Days and reading their entry in the companion book. Really fucking good. I'm gonna be listening to this one a lot for the next little bit, I think.

Iggy Pop & James Williamson, 'Kill City' (1977; James Williamson's 2010 remix/remaster).
Along with 'Raw Power', my fave Iggy album ever, and a desert island top 20 as well. Williamson pulls up all sorts of bits - musically and vocally - from the original tapes that weren't on his rushed '77 mix, which I had on its original green vinyl. A real masterpiece.

That remixed Kill City was one of the best musical surprises, James took an album I loved since I was a child and know note for fucking note and made it so much better. Amazing job. Too bad his album with Iggy "Ready to Die" sucked so bad.

Absolutely re: 'Kill City'. bought the green vinyl with my paper route money when it came out and I was 13, was my first introduction to Iggy ('Raw Power' came shortly after). I too have every note in my DNA, so it's actually a bit startling to hear what James did with the remix and I wish I still had the crummy needle-drop CD of the original mix as a companion piece.

Stopped really paying attention to Iggy (dunno why) after 'Party', so haven't heard 'Ready to Die', but I did enjoy 'New Values' quite a bit when it came out - also produced/guitar by Williamson. But I still feel 'Kill City' is Iggy's finest solo joint.
