Re: Clash songs you can't stand
I wouldn't say I can't stand any Clash songs, but there are many I skip over or tune out when I hear them.
Lover's Rock
A lot of songs on S!, mostly side 6
Crooked Beat
Should I Stay or Should I Go <--- I blame this on the radio. Once upon a time I used to like it.

The Card Cheat came to my mind too, although hate is too strong a word. For me, it's where LC loses steam. I think Lover's Rock gets a bad rap because it has the unfortunate fate of following the song that sucks all the energy out of the room, which makes it seem more tedious than it is. The last half of Lover's Rock is killer.JoseUnidos wrote: ↑16 Feb 2018, 10:13amThe Card Cheat - overwrought Bruuuce-meets-Spector dud. It's awful.

I think it's Joe's vocals that bother me.

Joe's vocals always spoke quite highly of you. Chew on that, ma'am, chew on that.

Well said! CC has all the ingredients of a decent song, just too much of everything (over-emotive, over-produced, etc.) and it doesn't add up to go anywhere. Also, does London Calling really need two songs about cheating at gambling?msza2 wrote: ↑16 Feb 2018, 9:14pmThe Card Cheat came to my mind too, although hate is too strong a word. I'm fine with Lover's Rock, especially Mick's squeally guitar sound; I always skip CC to get to it.

I think I like the sound of The Card Cheat, but not one of Joe's stronger lyrics. I almost want to call them a bit shoddy and meandering - almost like an unfinished sketch versus well written verse.JoseUnidos wrote: ↑19 Feb 2018, 2:31pmWell said! Re: Clash songs you can't stand
I love Lose This Skin but I think it would have been better off just being released under Tymon's own name rather than the "Clash" moniker.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board
