Pictured, annoying Stones fans descend upon Wolter for speaking truthfully.

A lot of filler, it's no London Calling.

Exile is great, but it's not even the best Stones album.

Exile in Guyville is better.

I love the Stones but Exile isn't the best.
I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

Yet another disastrous Heston poll. Hold on …
*finger to ear piece*
Really?
My apologies, ladies and gentlemen. This is not, in fact, a Heston poll.

Weird, I side with eummie, Flex, and Hes on this one. Love the record, but it's no my favorite of theirs and has a good amount of filler.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I overstated my case for effect. But Exile does little for me outside of a handful of tracks. Every few years I make an attempt to see what others see in it and every few years I think “eh.”

No point me getting involved in this thread except to say that 'Exile' is probably a better double than 'London Calling'. And concur it's not the Stones finest album (as 'London Calling' isn't the Clash's finest).

Re: Greatest Rock and Roll record ever (poll)
Wow, a bit of serendipity here as I just played "Guyville' for the first time in years. Love it and Liz, but think her next two were progressively better. And Jenny, I'm guessing you've heard the old trope about 'Guyville' being a song-for-song answer album to 'Main Street'. I personally don't hear it, interesting as the concept may be. But she obviously took a lot from Keef & Woody's crazy guitar tunings to shape her idiosyncratic songwriting style, and the one time I saw her live she did their "Emotional Rescue". What an odd choice (though very "girly" I reckon!).
