Haven't got the book at hand but pretty sure it's a Strummer/Jones.

I’ve always assumed it’s Paul on bass. Can anyone confirm that?

I can't. I always thought it was somebody other than Paul. It's too solid.

Looked up the sheet music and it’s S/J.
Love aspects of the song but songs with the same chord progression in the verse and the chorus are too static for me to fully love.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I heard City of the Dead for the first time in ages today. Man, what an underrated song that is.

Yep. Still have my single copy of "Complete Control" (couldn't get it til '78) and after CC, "City Of the Dead" quickly became my 2nd fave Clash tune at the time. Supposedly Mick hated the song. wtf, Mick?
Also, the labels on the disc were backwards (CC on b-side and vice versa); I very carefully penned in the proper songs - shoulda left it as is, mighta been worth something on eBay!

Love the FHTE version because he drops his dopey 77 delivery.

That's a good one.

I feel the same way - and The Prisoner, too. I kind of always lump the two of them together.
