A long time since I read either version. Both great and at the time I thought RLGIT was worth the second release.Kory wrote: ↑16 Dec 2017, 11:40pmI finally picked up a copy of Return of the LGIT, which I was excited for because I'm so late to the party on replacing my original version. I noticed though, that it does away with the few images that pop up in the body of the text (the concert posters, etc), which disappointed me a bit. Anyone familiar enough with both versions of the book that can say whether the "new" one is really worth replacing the old one with? Does it really have that much more info?

I’ve read so many I have lost track. Was RLGIT the book that covered Joe’s wilderness years and Glastonbury etc.?Marky Dread wrote: ↑17 Dec 2017, 7:33amJust has more stuff to follow on from the first edition. It's a drag it doesn't include that illustration for the Vultures at the very least.Marky Dread wrote: ↑17 Dec 2017, 7:33amJust has more stuff to follow on from the first edition. I think Redemption Song provided the best insight into Joe's wilderness years - so guessing that is the one you're talking about. Agreed that it joined a few dots and provided a lot of info I never really knew. All in all - a pretty solid book.101Walterton wrote: ↑18 Dec 2017, 12:10amCould be.Low Down Low wrote: ↑17 Dec 2017, 8:33pmRedemption Song?101Walterton wrote: ↑17 Dec 2017, 3:10pmI’ve read so many I have lost track. My favorite part of that whole book was learning that Joe called Chris Salewicz "Sandwich."WestwayKid wrote: ↑18 Dec 2017, 11:21amI think Redemption Song provided the best insight into Joe's wilderness years - so guessing that is the one you're talking about. The first 20 seconds or so of One More Time blew me away today. Whatever production issues exist with Sandinsta! do not apply, Mikey is like a hype man at the beginning of a rap track, and MUST I GET A WITNESS? might just be the best first line in the whole damn discography.
Re: The Clash observations thread.
It was the first song I fell in love with off Sandinista! when I finally heard the entire album. Brilliant.drowninghere wrote: ↑19 Jan 2018, 9:53pmThe first 20 seconds or so of One More Time blew me away today. And when you think Stop the World made the tracklisting for Essential Clash.drowninghere wrote: ↑19 Jan 2018, 9:53pmThe first 20 seconds or so of One More Time blew me away today. Utterly superb song. "You don't need no silicone to calculate poverty" is my favourite line.

I’m with you on that one. So many things going on. Joe sounds so weary, but it fits with the song. Mikey’s toasting and a killer groove from Paul. In my mind - the best reggae they ever recorded. Glad to hear it getting some love!

Hey Hes, who got songwriting credit on that one?
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.
