While I subscribed to these opinions into my mid-20s, I find them repellently boring now.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑01 Dec 2017, 9:25pmKind of a free-for-all final class today, in which the opinion was proffered that the Beatles weren't very good technically and that we love them only because it's heretical to say otherwise. More so, it was said that Ringo wasn't a good drummer. Which made me think of Wolter's great line years ago about how if you hadn't drummed for the Beatles, just shut the fuck up. I thought about throwing that out as a counter, but figured it was over the line and just arched my eyebrow.

That's one thing I enjoy about the more passionate students—I recognize that same arrogance and surety of opinion that I possessed at the same age.Kory wrote: ↑04 Dec 2017, 2:12pmWhile I subscribed to these opinions into my mid-20s, I find them repellently boring now.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑01 Dec 2017, 9:25pmKind of a free-for-all final class today, in which the opinion was proffered that the Beatles weren't very good technically and that we love them only because it's heretical to say otherwise. This is hilarious — Paul forgets how I'm Down starts, then screws up the rest of the song too!

Clearly that's one of the fake Pauls after his death and the guy still hasn't got the act down yet.

How can you laugh when you know he's down?

There are few pleasures nicer than being super hungover, taking one's morning shower at 1:30 while listening to Beatles for Sale.

The line inspired by Peter Fonda, "I know what it's like to be dead," is striking as hell on its own, but coming from a band known for cheeriness and optimism and all that, it's quite jarring. Not that it was intended to be predictive, but it ends up being an omen to how the Summer of Love and psychedelia is going to play out.

I love it a great track. Lyrically it's genius especially as it was as you say against the grain of their pop sunshine lyrics of the time.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑07 Jan 2018, 1:36pmThe line inspired by Peter Fonda, "I know what it's like to be dead," is striking as hell on its own, but coming from a band known for cheeriness and optimism and all that, it's quite jarring. Man, I know the LP has reached saturation and their are critiques of whether it's the best or patriarchal or blah blah blah, but fuck if Sgt. Pepper ever pops up the radio and I don't instinctively crank up the volume knob when those first riffs start playing. What a song.
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead
Pex Lives!
