Johns definitely tightened up the songs and sound. Like, you wouldn't exactly describe Sandinista! or RP (from what we've heard) as "crisp."

It's just way more psych and druggy, which fits my sensibilities perfectly. I feel like I can live inside Rat Patrol way better than I can the glossier sheen of CR.

Me too. That druggy feel does suit some tracks better than others.

Yeah I hear you on this Inder. Sandinista! was a lot of material so I've always presumed it wasn't as well produced as it could've been due it's sheer volume.

Spending all your time recording maybe doesn't leave as much for mixing when you're on the label's dime!

And you'd think Joe might have been down with that vibe, given how obsessed he said he became with Vietnam around that time, particulary Michael Herr's Dispatches which I assume was the inspiration for Sean Flynn.

Listening to Marky's typically awesome comp now. Hadn't really listened to a lot of it before, but I immediately like the sparser Car Jarmming.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Hah how strange I've just literally taken the CR version of Car Jamming and split the stereo channels and one of the channels gives the song a lot more punch. This the left channel have a listen to the guitar.

Not sure it is stated enough, but you are such a major contributor to this board and the community in general.

I'll second that. Marky for president!
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board
