I rep harder for Modern Love than anyone I know, but I think it has several sublime moments. Including
"I know when to stay in"
"But I try... I try"
And the echoing backing vocals through the choruses.
I actually rank ML in my top 10 Bowie. I love that song.
Bowie has too many for that to touch my top 10, but it’s the finest of his 1983-and-beyond pop singles by a fair margin. Glorious song.
EDIT: that guitar intro was hands down the best thing Stevie Ray Vaughn ever did.
Going back to Moonage Daydream, the last minute or so if that song is as fine a moment as rock music has ever created.
”INDER LOCK THE THE KISS THREAD IVE REALISED IM A PRZE IDOOT” - Thomas Jefferson
His name was always buddy
And he'd shrug and ask to stay
She'd sigh like twig the wonder kid
And turn her face away
The next line alone is worth it’s own entry the way he sings:
She’s uncertain if she likes him.
That song is so painfully gorgeous.
Has been a favourite of mine since my brother (who is 6 years older than me) who I shared a bedroom with bought the single when it came out and thrashed it.
Sometimes, it's like someone took a knife, baby, edgy and dull
And cut a six-inch valley through the middle of my skull
Yeah that's a good one, but the whole BItUSA song makes me want to throw up sometimes, just to get something outta me. Don't know what or why. Something "sublime" I guess. Have a field day with this post, Bruce haters
A very overplayed song at the time. Sadly misinterpreted by many. When you look at the lyrics from the returning Vet angle it's incredibly poignant. Fantastic snare sound.
I'd like to point out that the only time I've ever seen him do it live (of the 12 times I've seen him) was when I saw him play in Prague.
I'd like to point out that I was refering to radio play and other places than that of Bruce playing it live. And I'm jealous I wished I'd seen him 12 times.
Oh no, I got that. I was just pointing out how he only plays it when he's not in the US. Just an interesting factoid.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.
Has anyone mentioned the pause and return of music on Waiting Room. If not, why not?
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

I love a good rest.

Cool.
Forces have been looting
My humanity
Curfews have been curbing
The end of liberty
We're the flowers in the dustbin...
No fuchsias for you.
