Inder's Takes — Nilsson
Re: Inder's Takes — Nilsson
Some really cool alt-takes on the Sessions CDs that came with the recent box. Well worth tracking down, if you're so inclined.

Watched the Nilsson doc last night. IMDB lists it at 116 minutes, I saw it on PBS in a 90 minute slot, minus the pledge drive shit, so I saw a bit of it, I suppose.
I'm not huge on his music, but a very interesting character.
Reminded me a little of me. Not the talent part, the likes to get fucked up part.
So he fucked up his voice (in part) because he liked to have who-can-scream-the-loudest contests with John Lennon?

We reach the parts other combos cannot reach

Just found this neato clip of Brian Wilson and Al Jardine doing a bit of Nilsson:
Here's the demo HN recorded at a Monkees session —
And here's the MFQ version produced by Phil Spector —

Had drinks with a friend I haven't seen face-to-face in about fourteen months. Among the revelations was that he's getting into Nilsson. His wife is confused by this middle-aged turn.
