No grudges held in Clash-land!
Funny that in Redemption Song it is also mentioned that Bernie was amazed by Rude Boy because he claimed it gave him insight into the band he never had...

Re: Rude Boy
...but I think in Joe's mind he did thing he needed Bernie. I've seen enough crazy interviews from Vince to scare me away...but in one he talks about Bernie's hold over Joe. He talks about how insecure Joe was and how in his mind - Joe believed that Bernie had created Joe Strummer and that he felt some sort of need to hang onto Bernie because of that.

Re: Rude Boy
So would the audio source for the Snotty Snail label “IFTL” bootleg cd be untampered with or does it include overdubs as well?

Re: Rude Boy
Marky is the person to answer this however I would say it is taken straight from the film audio as it also includes No Reason, Let The Good Times Roll complete with Ray's empty can being kicked around.

Re: Rude Boy
No that one is the pro live show recording albeit a generation down from the master. However a number of the tracks can be found on the Sound System box listed as coming from the Lyceum show the band played on Dec 28, '78. But they are all from the Lyceum show Jan 3, '79.
Johnny Green claims the band dubbed evertyhing on the Rude Boy soundtrack except IFtL from Lyceum Jan 3, '79. My guess being as it was pro recorded on a 16 track mobile the sound was pretty decent and only required some finishing mixing/mastering for the film.
The Snotty Snail boot will most likely be a generation down from the master source and would've had no mixing/mastering. If you compare some of the tracks from Sound System to the Snotty Snail boot you will clearly notice the boot has some distortion on Stay Free and Cheapskates the boot also runs too fast as does my recent upgrade which I will amend at some point. Also on the Snotty Snail boot "(White Man) in Hammersmith Palais" around the 2 min - 2 mim 10 mark the source tape stops then restarts at a previous point on the tape so in effect you still get a full track. I wonder if the master tape is the same as "(W M) in H P" is not one of the tracks included on Sound System. I repaired the track on my recent upgrade which was very easy to do.

Gave Rude Boy a spin last night after a gap of many years. It does not get any better with age quite frankly.

If you are after film of the band then it's pretty cool. If you want a movie about 70's social commentary then look elsewhere.Low Down Low wrote: ↑01 Nov 2017, 7:09pmGave Rude Boy a spin last night after a gap of many years. It does not get any better with age quite frankly.

Re: Rude Boy
Shame they used the band to make a hamfisted attempt at social commentary, then. Imagine if Scorsese had filmed them, like the Last Waltz and left the makers of Rude Boy in the paper waste basket of history where they belonged. We had one shot at a Clash film, and it just had to have a non-actor pretending to get unconvincing fellatio in it.Marky Dread wrote: ↑01 Nov 2017, 7:25pmIf you are after film of the band then it's pretty cool.
