Well, my heart just cracked into several places. I'll give my two calicos extra hugs and scratches today in honour of your beautiful girl.

Never an easy thing to go through. I think people who have never had a pet don't realize they're not simply animals who live with us - they're a part of the family and losing one is really, really rough.

We lost the matriarch of our cat family last July. She was only 14 - but whatever took her - took her quick and her downhill slide was very sudden. The kids and I miss her - every animal is unique and they add their own "twist" to our lives that can never be replaced.

Her loss took us down to 3 cats - which was kind of where I planned on keeping it - but then last weekend I had the chance to take in a stray who had been living in the alley behind my sister's house and I just couldn't say no.

We don't own our so called pets they are our friends not out possessions. The sooner we learn this is their planet not ours the better.

My sister dresses up her 5 lb. dachsund in a felt hot dog bun. The look of pure hate on that dog's face in that getup just screams "I am going to poop on something near and dear to you."
