Only if he has pictures of Cashman with live boys and dead girls. Donnie hasn't exactly blown away the baseball world with his managing successes.

Great rosters that never got over the hump in the playoffs. Generally, he has the stink of loser on him if you ask me. He retired just as the Yankees re-emerged as world beaters in the 90s, then rejoined them in 2004 as the Torre years went south. He leaves when Girardi comes in and the Yankees win it all in 2009. Sure, coincidence, bad timing, and all, but, man, it's hard not to think that he's a cooler.revbob wrote: ↑26 Oct 2017, 6:33pmLOL. Re: MLB 2017
Cashman's not going to send the Marlins prospects compensation for hiring Mattingly. No way. Nobody's worth that.
Apparently Girardi's been openly pining for a league-office job and trying to get off the field altogether. Maybe that's why Cashman gave him a shove without any help from the Stein-sons or Randy Levine's Mob Ties™.
Re: MLB 2017
Sad, but not surprised. I love Joe, but he's made some boneheaded calls through the years that leave me surprised he lasted this long. When the Yankees lost to the Astros, I had a feeling this was coming.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑26 Oct 2017, 10:45amHoly stink, Girardi not coming back next year: http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/2116 ... rk-yankees
Ten years is a long time to manage a club, but still, after doing a pretty damned good job dealing with teams that often had lots of guys on the wrong side of their prime years, not being part of a team that has tons of young guys emerging is surprising.

It's only the second, but this feels like when the Jays lit up Darvish in the ALDS a few years ago.

Is Houston's late game heroics in Game 2 going to be like when Gibson hit the walk-off against Eck in '88, and that pretty much broke the A's spirit?

I saw that as well this morning. I wonder how much of that is Darvish's personality and how much is culture. That is, I can't recall Japanese players responding to racist language and gestures while playing in North America, so I wonder if it's learned response not to escalate when someone acts like an ass in that way.
