And yet, not odder than a lot of Mark Trail strips …

I'm going to have a hard time staying on with Archie once Mark Waid ends his run.

Yeah, that might be a last straw for me and Marvel. I'll read the old stuff, but fuck them sideways.

Update: Marvel announced that it "will not be proceeding with this partnership" with Northrop Grumman. It also sent us the following statement:

"The activation with Northrop Grumman at New York Comic Con was meant to focus on aerospace technology and exploration in a positive way. However, as the spirit of that intent has not come across, we will not be proceeding with this partnership including this weekend's event programming. Marvel and Northrop Grumman continue to be committed to elevating, and introducing, STEM to a broad audience."

Yeah, they can still eat shit. Although I might give Squirrel Girl an exemption.

I wonder how many of these awful missteps (to put it kindly), be it Cap is a Nazi or active whoring for the military industrial complex, are the result of Disney and octopus conglomerate pressures or just more of floundering of a comics biz whose market hold is declining. The movie and tv arms are cash cows, but none of the Marvel books are capturing my imagination these days.

I think it's because nerds are the new Hitler Youth.

The last few years have especially made me think that Wertham does merit some reconsideration (not least of all because most comic fans only have a caricatured understanding of him). Skim any given comic book message board and you'll see crude, anti-social violent fantastists.
