What are Boston fans upset about? Hasn't their team dominated under his tenure?
Suspended St. Tom for 4 games last season.

I found out something interesting last week. My niece is a cheerleader at her high school. I am very disappointed in her - she is very mopey, so I thought she would be dressing in all black and listening to Joy Division by now. But she's evidently very bubbly at school, so she just hates her family. Anyway, she told me that they didn't have enough kids to form a freshman football team, and they anticipate the numbers going town each year. I don't think this is surprising, but it will be interesting to see how long football lasts.

I've been arguing for some time that football is cascading toward minor status. The mounting evidence that playing it competitively literally shortens one's quality of life is going to mean fewer kids from families of means will allow their kids to play. It'll come to be dominated by kids from poverty who do so for the same reason so many join the military—it's a risk, but there's greater potential reward than working at Wal-Mart. As well, the potential for lawsuits could cripple some high school and small college football programs (or the insurance premiums to deal with the same). I don't watch much football anymore because I can't get it out of my mind that whenever there's a big hit, that guy suffered some degree of brain damage. It's just unsettling as hell.

Agreed. I can't watch it anymore, either. I feel like I'm watching a gladiator match.

Brady didn't do anything wrong. I hope Goodell's wife cheats on him with his brother.

It is mighty entertaining to see how frothy folks get by a rather simple and benign gesture. Especially when the vast majority in the stands or at home aren't thinking 'bout their country or freedom or crying eagles, but are anxious for the game to begin or getting another beer from the fridge. But a few guys opt out of a gesture and the fabric of the republic starts to unravel. Hi-larious.

Just a thought... Why would the GOP pick a fight with the NFL? The NFL fan base is second only to NASCAR in terms of wacko GOP support.

Because the GOP is not even remotely a rational beast and is motivated by attacking anything that is incomplete in its commitment to authoritarianism.
