If you haven't heard or seen Paul F. Tompkins' Labouring Under Delusions album/show—and you're missing an absolutely fantastic chunk of comedy—he closes with a hilarious encounter with WAY.

He also went through an incredibly tragic loss of both parents a while back that broke my heart. I was a huge fan as a nerdy kid in the 80s, and I just never want him to be sad.

Oh, god, that was so sad. Wasn't it caused by a closed fireplace floo? So awful.

I once told a music reviewer friend that Weird Al was a barometer for your relationship to popular music. The easier it is for you to identify what he's parodying, the more in tune you are to the mainstream. Hence, by the early 90s, I had a hard time discerning what was being played around with.

When that album came out, I was convinced that "Buy me a Condo" was going to be set to the tune of "Send me an Angel." When it wasn't, I found it jarring.
I also wrote to WAY as a kid requesting him to do a parody of "Miss Me Blind" by Culture Club called "Mince Meat Pie."

I remember he said he doesn't take requests, but the only exception was when Madonna asked if was going to do "Like a Surgeon."JennyB wrote: ↑15 Aug 2017, 1:26pmWhen that album came out, I was convinced that "Buy me a Condo" was going to be set to the tune of "Send me an Angel." I'm aware of his music after Off the Deep End, but I was Harder Core Than Thou by the next album, which I believe was Alapalooza.Kory wrote: ↑15 Aug 2017, 1:12pmI was with him up until Running with Scissors. now I have no idea what he's doing anymore.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑15 Aug 2017, 1:10pmI once told a music reviewer friend that Weird Al was a barometer for your relationship to popular music.
