I've been to Elland Road supporting Man United. Oh what a fun afternoon they made me feel so welcome.

Re: FOOTBALL!
Despised in Sunderland. Obviously goes back to Revie etc.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Re: FOOTBALL!
The 73 Cup final apart I wasnt aware there was any particular Sunderland-Leeds hatred. Is it cos Revie was a Boro boy?

We don't really hate Boro, it's more a pity thing.Low Down Low wrote: ↑07 Aug 2017, 4:17pmThe 73 Cup final apart I wasnt aware there was any particular Sunderland-Leeds hatred. Is it cos Revie was a Boro boy?
I think the Leeds hatred is just a general thing that goes back to how hated they were by everyone in the 70s. probably just a one way thing rather than a mutual hatred. We reserve all that energy for Newcastle.

Re: FOOTBALL!
Revie's Leeds were a shower of dirty bastards alright, but also a pretty fucking great team. Should have won at least 4 League titles as well as a European Cup (utterly robbed by Bayern). For my sins, I picked them as my team as a 7 year old precisely because all the rest of my family was either United or Liverpool and hated Leeds. I had to find something to mark out my territory and Dirty Leeds fitted the bill quite nicely.Heston wrote: ↑07 Aug 2017, 4:28pmWe don't really hate Boro, it's more a pity thing.Low Down Low wrote: ↑07 Aug 2017, 4:17pmThe 73 Cup final apart I wasnt aware there was any particular Sunderland-Leeds hatred. They were no dirtier than other teams at the time. Re: FOOTBALL!
That is not true. The game was a lot tougher then ( you could tackle from behind, slide tackle and take out the player as long as you took the ball as well) and forwards got kicked all over the park but Leeds were dirty.deny wrote: ↑07 Aug 2017, 6:51pmThey were no dirtier than other teams at the time. Re: FOOTBALL!
I disagree
Every team had a hard man back in those days it's just that Leeds had ten of them.

Re: FOOTBALL!
Leeds are like that player that everybody hates but would love in their team. I have to say the Premier League is a poorer place without them.Low Down Low wrote: ↑07 Aug 2017, 4:43pmRevie's Leeds were a shower of dirty bastards alright, but also a pretty fucking great team. Re: FOOTBALL!
It also shows how good players like Best were. Kicked all over the park, no protection from referees but no diving no rolling around on the floor.
Re: FOOTBALL!
Please have a look at this
Two weeks earlier they had done the same to Best & Co
Cheers

Re: FOOTBALL!
Seems ridiculous that as the UK's third largest city, and a one club town to boot, Leeds aren't a PL stalwart, regularly challenging for titles. You'd think they'd seem an obvious target for some oil rich Sheikh or zillionaire Chinese investor, but for some reason they seem to be a magnet for inveterate chances like Ridsdale and Cellino.Heston wrote: ↑07 Aug 2017, 7:53pmLeeds are like that player that everybody hates but would love in their team. Re: FOOTBALL!
Very true. I'm reading a Maradona book at the moment and it details the savagery he was regularly subjected to, including one time being kicked by a rival fan as he disembarked the team bus and having to stay up all night to ice his swollen knee. Still holds the world record for most fouled player in a game (23 v Spain in the 1982 World Cup). Half of them probably by the infamous "butcher of Bilbao", Antonio Goikoetxea.101Walterton wrote: ↑07 Aug 2017, 8:42pmIt also shows how good players like Best were.
