Re: IMCT Running Club
Did a 55 minute 10k last weekend, which is a personal best for me for sure. And about 10 (?) minutes off from running the same race last year.
Now to really dive into training for my half in August.

Hell yeah. Nothing more addictive than feeling your body getting stronger.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.
Re: IMCT Running Club
I've been dieting heavily and lifting weights but I haven't gotten around to running yet. It's just too tedious and my new longer work hours decrease my motivation big time.

Re: IMCT Running Club
One thing I miss about our old house was that the basement was deep enough (barely) for a home gym set up. All I have now is dumbbells and an inclined bench for sit-ups (along with a trainer for my bike). If our basement had more head room, I'd get me a Bowflex or whatever toot sweet.

I promise that when VH, Jr. goes away to camp for two weeks, I am going to get my ass to the gym and start getting that baby weight (from 8 years ago) off. I swear, mom! Leave me alone!

Congrats on the plan! Just make sure to start slow and manageable, to make sure you don't get discouraged or burned out by doing too much.

Re: IMCT Running Club
Just started running early this year. Just hit the 5k landmark, which I can do in 30 mins. A lot of work to do, but I'm enjoying it a lot!

As I've said to Flex and others many times, I'm in awe of you runners. Do you have a target in mind, whether distance or rate?threecoffins wrote: ↑06 Jun 2017, 10:09amJust started running early this year. Just hit the 5k landmark, which I can do in 30 mins. Don't worry. That won't be a problem.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑06 Jun 2017, 9:46amCongrats on the plan! Just make sure to start slow and manageable, to make sure you don't get discouraged or burned out by doing too much.
I actually currently walk about an hour each day (well, splitting that up between two 30 minute walks). If I don't, we'd have to drug Scout. We have a killer hill on our street, so it's decent exercise. I just want to get back into eating healthier.

Re: IMCT Running Club
When we bought our house here, after renting for four or five years, our one non-negotiable was that we be within walking distance of campus. We ended up at the far end of our preferred zone, about a half-hour walk to school, but it works. Don't have to take the bus and we do get that exercise (plus, if I'm alone, I can listen to music or an audiobook).
My diet is awful. Not that I eat a bunch of junk food all the time, but I just don't care enough about food to eat well. People who argue passionately about food are a complete mystery to me. I make up for it, I guess, by exercising a lot and not eating much of my shitty food.

Re: IMCT Running Club
I took it up because I have a beer gut and distance running is something I liked and had an aptitude for as a kid. I have a large reservoir of dogged determination (it hides in the spare tire), so it suits me well haha! I'd like to get comfy with a 10k over this year, and then maybe try some races next year.Dr. Medulla wrote: ↑06 Jun 2017, 10:42amAs I've said to Flex and others many times, I'm in awe of you runners.
