Hello,

The next Challenge: rate the songs using only STD's Gene hasn't had.
So, full-blown AIDS and … ?
Is there an STD that makes you into a decent person that writes good music? Because he's clearly immune to that one.
Are we talking about Simmons, or Eumaas?
Yes.

I'd be game to go in on a challenge with someone. Bands I enjoy enough that are divisive or hated here enough that could be interesting/amusing to do:

Pink Floyd
Led Zeppelin (although Matey would probably select a better top 10)
Bob Dylan (did this with Doc before, but would probably try a new list and/or go for the Bobbest of Dylan songs)
The Exploited (lol)
Dave Matthews Band (double lol)

Faux addendum: probably third wave ska and some 90s shit too, but I dunno. Someone make a suggestion in that vein if they want to go that route, I guess.

Pink Floyd is a band that I really should like but find exceedingly boring (to a much lesser degree, I'm the same way with Bowie; I like him fine enough, but given who he has influenced and how I feel about them, I should be in the Wolter zone of dangerously long-lasting erection). It'd be better if someone else steps up to participate, but I'd be willing to set up for a Floyd experience.

I don't think I've heard a Dave Matthews Band song? I know they're jam band and the dude has a 90s alt-rock voice, so I know I won't love 'em. I'd be willing to give 'em a college try.

A lot of the studio versions aren't available in the UK - which is weird - so I tried out the first result I could. This is bad music. He's more of a mewler than a growler.

I'd offer up a "Good songs that were hits in the UK but did shit in America" playlist in return for a similar US or Canadian version. It's quite easy to check on Wiki where something was a hit.

I actually really, really hate Pink Floyd. They are one of those bands, along with the Greatful Dead, that actually cause me to have a negative physiological reaction. I actually feel nauseated right now. So I am not up for the challenge.

ETAA: I found out from VH, Jr. yesterday that the custodian at his school was a roadie for Led Zeppelin. I hope he wasn't with them in Seattle.

Wolt likes Zep too. And I've enjoyed plenty of DMB singles.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I can put together a Floyd challenge for you, Doc. Am I trying to create a persuasive argument for Floyd in the setlist or purposely drive you to madness and/or tedium? I'm not quite clear on this.

To be clear, I don't dislike Bowie. Intellectually, I have a ton of respect for the guy. And I do dig a lot of singles. But he's never grabbed in that reverential way that he has so many others here. I've probably listened to every album of his at one time or another, but whatever switch that needs to be flipped in me just isn't.

Your call. The challenge doesn't have to abusive, I don't think. Heston and me have got a past, so it was inevitable that we'd seek to hurt the other, but I don't see why this game can't also be about edification if not proselytization. But making suffer the slow death of ennui can be legit, too.

I'm similar with most of his albums except Ziggy, which is an utter masterpiece. Hunky Dory is great too but I find most of his albums fair to middling.
