Good lord. And the horrible thing is we can no longer rule out this kind of idiocy. Maybe celebrity candidates is evidence that Western democracies are truly managerial states now and the executive is purely ceremonial, there to make us feel happy or angry, but not actually meaningfully engage in policy. Maybe Jimmy Carter was the last textbook president.
Endut! Hoch Hech!

Oy, doesn't seem likely she'll pull an Engels, does it?
"The only thing that really occurs to me that I can say on this is to point out how fascinating it is that the Hassan-i-Sabbah archetype keeps turning up over and over again ... He disappears up into the mountains and is never seen again. Believe me, he'll never be seen again. He'll live forever because of that."

Ah, gotcha. Oprah has been on my serious-ass hate list for the longest time for two reasons: 1) Her reaction to global warming: Who'd complain about it being warmer in the winter, right?; 2) I worked in a shitty bookstore when she had her book club, and each announcement led to a deluge of desperate middle-aged female zombies demanding their sacred parchment for the month.

A place where people with master's degrees worked for minimum wage as punishment for their poor decisions. Jeff Bezos freed the wage slaves a decade ago, allowing them to serve their time in coffee shops.

No, not at all. And she and her audience all laughed that shallow moron laugh. I assume she's changed her opinion since, but it's that kind of dumb immediate reaction that sticks with me. You have a climate scientist warning of a catastrophe and your response is to think it sure would be nice to have warmer winters. Idiocy.

Dammit, people, you have to separate the head from the body and bury them in different locations or else vampires keep coming back.

There's an insane arrogance in her thinking that the country needs her at this point.
