More great picks everyone (can never go wrong with Paranoid Visions Christmas music, had never heard the Iggy White Christmas, and good lord that Go Go's cut...)

I missed yesterday due a busy schedule which culminated in seeing the Brian Setzer Orchestra do their Christmas concert, which was fabulous. So, here's a makeup song plus today's:

Day 13: Brian Setzer Orchestra - Boogie Woogie Santa Claus

Original Release: Boogie Woogie Christmas
Year: 2002

Been listening to this danged Christmas album since High School, apparently. Brian Setzer has basically created his own Christmas-Industrial Complex with three Christmas studio albums, a live album, a greatest hits, and a live DVD. They're all varying degrees of good, but his best is still probably this first foray and this cut is a favorite. He did an insanely good version last night, with incredible instrumental work added in. Great showmanship and skill. Plus, tons of fun.

Day 14: John Lennon - Happy Xmas (War is Over)

Original Release: Happy Xmas (War is Over) b/w Listen, the Snow is Falling
Year: 1971

We did Paul last year, so how about Lennon's Christmas song this year? I still remember getting chastised in 2001 for playing this song at the sandwich shop where I worked, as some patron didn't find anti-war sentiment appropriate in the wake of our 9/11 bloodlust. Fuck 'em.

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a bowl of soup
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a rolling hoop
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle like a ton of lead
Wiggle - you can raise the dead

Holy shit, again, everyone is bringng their holiday music A-game. Love the Fitz and Wat Tyler songs, especially.

Day 15: Stan Freberg - Green Chri$tma$

Original Release: Green Chri$tma$ b/w The Meaning of Christmas
Original Release: 1958

I encountered this on, of course, one of the all-time Christmas records: Dr. Demento Presents: Greatest Xmas Novelty CD. This is one of my favorite tracks, it's genuinely amusing and a classic foray in the commercialization angle.

I like the change in tone. Let's roll with it.

Day 16: David Bowie/Bing Crosby - Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy

Original Release: Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy b/w Fantastic Voyage
Year: 1982

I used to think this performance was very bad, but now I realize it's actually extremely great.

I love the two Polly songs. DAMNIT she died way too young.

Damn autocorrect on my phone changed Polly Styrene to Pollyanna. Makes you want to hit someone.

Moving away from the cheesey into something more like this (unsung/underrated band).

And more great stuff from El Vez

This is perhaps the more Xmassy version:

The Bellrays are great. I saw them supporting The Damned in 2003.
