The year is 1980. Acclaim is rolling in for the Clash's new double-album
London Calling; some are declaring it the greatest Rock album of all-time. But whispers of "diminishing returns" and "thin in spots, innit?" make their way to the band's ears, and despite the overwhelming positive reaction the band searches it's soul and finds those whisperers had it right. They hit the studio to record the next album, more FOCUSED than ever.
The sessions are smooth as the band bunkers down in the studio, resisting distractions from all fronts, and the album is mixed at a leisurely pace as their undue preparedness leaves ample time for production.
Pre-release copies make their rounds, and the critics can hardly contain themselves:
"Their HARDEST ROCKING album since Sandy Pearlman manned the boards!"
"Their TIGHTEST batch of songs since the 1977 debut!"
"You have to admire their JUDICIOUS SELF-EDITING at a time when they could have gotten away with another double-album -- or maybe even a triple!"
On December 12, 1980, music fans everywhere rush to their favorite record store for the album they all have been waiting for:
