The Woodrow Wilson Thread

Man, that guy was a dick. Why do people look fondly on him?

Because everyone loves alliteration. He's second in my heart only to Herbert Hoover.

I'm indifferent to Woodrow. He lied about keeping the country out of the Great War and he is proudly quoted in the most notorious Klan movie ever but he also seemed to be an honest supporter of the League of Nations which, even if deeply flawed, was well minded.

His crackdowns on pacifists and unionists are completely unconscionable, WWI was a pointless slaughter, and intervening in the Russian Revolution set a terrible precedent. Fuck that guy.

Here's my "link" to Woodrow Wilson. His chief biographer and editor of his papers was the historian Arthur Link. His son, Bill Link, was the grad director in Greensboro when I did my MA. Bill and I rather openly hated each other, culminating in him flipping out at me in his office because I told him that his critique of my major paper wasn't constructive. His door was open and it was heard throughout the department, where his temporary insanity became office gossip. I think his enemies in the department appreciated it.

In closing, Woodrow Wilson: Massive Prick.

(Andrew Jackson was probably more racist than Wilson, tho.)

Calling Andrew Jackson a racist is like calling H. P. Lovecraft a racist. It misses the essential fact that they harbored deep hatred for almost everything and were lunatics.

Great story, though.

Excellent.
Although I'm assuming hatred for Venn diagrams extends to hatred for Euler diagrams... maybe I'm incorrect.
