Somebody was trying to tell me that CDs are better than vinyl because they don't have any surface noise. I said, "Listen, mate, "life" has surface noise."

Musically it's fine, I just don't like the vocals. Pete sounds like a simpleton at times, and a little bit German in places.
Bloody Northener, Pete's vocals sound great to me.

There is an absolutely awful version by Sham 69 that I very nearly posted.
Ok, here's Edwyn...

ps. any contributions to the thread are welcome but keep it chronological.
That's kind of self-defeating when you get to 'Remote Control' as a single, and say 'Protex Blue' as an album track. Still, I can't wait to see what happens if this keeps going and 'Shepherd's Delight' throws up a hidden gem.

Good version and although the song may be 77, the singer is clearly channeling 84 with those clothes.
Or Andrew WK.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.
I enjoy Pete docherty version as the best of these so far as he keeps the spirit of the original version but stamps his own personality on to the song, thats the mark of a good cover in my opinion.
WEll done to the afghan/collins/Django for trying to be original but i think the greatness of the songs are lost in the translation. Maybe Collins version i could get to like a lot more with a bit more of a listen.
The rest is so unoriginal that they are not worth listening to when i have the real mcoy song to appreciate, all of those ones really are dreadful and a waste of time.

Interesting thread though
This. Was surprised to have liked the Babyshambles version insofar as am always surprised to hear a Clash cover I like. Can't believe any band would willingly attempt to cover WMIHP whilst not at gunpoint. Seriously, what's the point?
