I've been DVRing Alfred Hitchcock Hour from Encore and saw last night what I thought was one of the best hour-long horror shows I've ever seen. "The Jar" based on a Bradbury story, with a phenomenal cast that included Pat (Green Acres) Buttram, William (Blacula) Marshall, George "Goober" Lindsay, Billy Barty and Slim Pickens

Don't take my word for it, the internet says so too!

it's on the youtube!

That has all the makings of a 1981 sitcom canceled after two episodes.

Ernest Borgnine is another classic "I bet this guy did lots of sitcom pilots that didn't make it to air" name.

Big time.

I wonder how many unaired pilots Jack Elam made.

Much as I love him, Norm MacDonald is another guy who tries to sell something at pilot season every year and virtually always fails.

For some reason, ever since I was a little kid that damn slot machine from the episode "The Fever", with the uptight husband who gets hooked on gambling, really creeped me out. When I remember the way it called his name, "FRANKLIN!" it still gives me a touch of the willies.
You gotta give the people something good to read...

The one that creeped me out when I was a kid was the one with Cliff Robertson as a ventreloquist. That dummy was freaky.

Prime Mover is another good one about gambling. Buddy Ebson makes the dice turn his way

That episode sucked because he never "hoooo-doggies."

On this day, back in 1960, season 1 episode "Elegy" aired.

"Of Late I Think of Cliffordville" is pretty easily the best of the hour long episodes. Julie Newmar as the Devil...

Season four was all hour long episodes (well, 50 minutes). They filled the time slot for some show that had been cancelled. Some decent episodes, but most had tons of padding. I've seen some of them cut down to 1/2 hour length for TZ marathons.

Addendum: But, as I said, Cliffordville is fuckin' fantastic.

But what about "He's Alive"? :shifty: That fourth season doesn't have many episodes that merit repeat viewings. The structure of the show just wasn't built for double-length stories.
