Re: Funny sketch comedy that's funny
It's weird, cos I'm alright with the central focus of a comedy series being an unlikable prick (David Brent, Basil Fawlty, Rab C Nesbitt), so long as they're compelling and interesting with it. Maybe it's a mainstream American thing that doesn't want to recognise the tragedy that makes those kind of characters so funny?

This is generally true. Arrested Development comes to mind as a show with a bunch of mostly awful people, but so otherwise inept that we don't hate them (which is pretty much the key to David Brent).Silent Majority wrote:It's weird, cos I'm alright with the central focus of a comedy series being an unlikable prick (David Brent, Basil Fawlty, Rab C Nesbitt), so long as they're compelling and interesting with it. It is regularly repeated on UKTV Sky channel.Heston wrote:Best written Brit-com ever. Did it see much action overseas? Is it repeated in NZ? You never hear our American friends mention it.101Walterton wrote:Only Fools And Horses has too many classic moments to mention but yes the one when Del Boy falls through the bar is brilliant and makes me laugh out loud every time I see it.

The fact that he was a shakesperian actor he gets that stupid thing down brilliantly.Heston wrote:Gotta love Trigger.Marky Dread wrote:Priceless!101Walterton wrote:My favourite Trigger moment:

How can you just sit around laughing when there are people out there with no KFC to eat. What would Joe Strummer think!Dr. Medulla wrote:This was just on …

I remember watching that when it aired. Great stuff. Who would have thought it was the moment Shatner realized that he could reinvent himself in self-parody?Joe Public wrote:
