The Boots Galore remarks thread.
Re: The Boots Galore remarks thread.
I love the One Gig Too Far Series, especially the new shows on part 2. If anybody needs covers for a quad jewel case there are some on my homepage at my

Re: The Boots Galore remarks thread.
This the first time in what feels like a year or two that I've listened to The Clash. And it's awesome.
Re: The Boots Galore remarks thread.
Been listening to the versions of The Call Up and Armagideon Time from the 1st cd of The Boston Tapes.
Both songs to me, highlight that there was still a good chemistry musically between Strummer & Jones even if the playing was at a slower tempo. Nice dual vocals on The Call Up, great playing by both of them on guitar, a lighter touch to Joe's rhythm playing. Great dubby effects on Mick's guitar at the start of Armagideon and a good vocal from Strummer.
Also, during Straight To Hell at about 4 minutes in Joe does a little vocal harmony, which if he was playing the showbiz
card would have had the crowd joining in.
Overall, Joe and Mick were not the flashing young blades at this stage, but they were still able to wield the ceremonial sword for old times sake.

Auckland '82 is Shibuya's cousin on shambolic energy. And quite possibly one of Topper's 2 or 3 greatest performances ever.

Paul is completely out of time in Jamaica. It's like he forgot his lit spliff backstage and wants to finish the set as quickly as possible before it goes out.

I haven't listened to the Roundhouse gig in forever, and man I forgot how fucking kickass the "What's My Name" is. If I hadn't been converted before that, I would have been then.

Actually, I'd say that the last three songs of that set were when The Clash became The Clash.

Looks like Liverpool 81 is corrupt (both lossy and lossless).
EDIT: Damn it. Also Wichita.

Thanks for the heads up. I was having issues with megaupload this morning. Can anyone confirm these issues?Wolter wrote:Looks like Liverpool 81 is corrupt (both lossy and lossless).

Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

US Festival IFTL is almost perfect. The Les Paul was the only one of the three guitars Mick played that day that didn't sound all messed up on the weird SBD guitar mix.

Re: The Boots Galore remarks thread.
After X years of flabby, slow-starting LC's opening the set, kicking off the Brixton '82 shows with White Riot was subtle genius. That 7/30/82 show rocks so hard. I even liked hearing it as an album version-faithful flat-tire rhythm section job. They totally should've kept that one as a set opener for every opening night of a double-header/residency.

14-08-1982 Junco Partner is really good. The quality of it sounds almost non-live it's so well performed.
