Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Ian Curtis = Mr. Bean
But Mr. Bean probably has a better singing voice.

Never been a big fan however Love Will Tear Us Apart is one of my all time fave singles.
Re: Is it just me...
It could be from the movie being released in the past year or so, I've seen many ads for it on the internet. I've never knowingly listened to Joy Division not for any particular reason, just never have, that goes for a lot of bands though.Suzanne H. wrote:...or does everyone seem to be getting into Joy Division these days? They seem to be massively increasing in popularity and I don't know why...it seems quite odd.
Thier sudden popularity is almost making me not want to like them anymore... :(

Control gets the eumaas thumbs up.
I feel that there is a fascistic element, for example, in the Rolling Stones . . .

I keed. I keed. I just picked up that Stalin bio you recommended some time back. After I get through the 10 or so other books I have queued up, I'm on it like a rat on a cheeto.

Joy Division's good music when you're wallowing in self-pity.

I just bought Control today.
It's sitting unwrapped on the counter. I'm contemplating perhaps watching it.
I'm sure Echo's going to be proud of me...

Re: Is it just me...
Now I've just finished watching it. How bloody UPLIFTING was that?!
I thought it was very good. I think they romanticized Ian a bit too much, and that Sam dude sings nothing like Ian....but I guess the movie had to be made like this in order to capture the audiences emotions, eh? Which it does....it's the first movie I got choked up over in a looooong time.
I need to cheer myself up somehow....
