The David Bowie is God Thread
The exotica break in "Moonage Daydream" is fucking awesome.
I've studied the phenomenon of neo-provincialism in self-isolating online communities but this place takes the fucking cake.

Yes, love it.eumaas wrote:The exotica break in "Moonage Daydream" is fucking awesome.
My favourite song on my favourite Bowie album, and the passage you refer to is IMMENSE.
So what does Marconi playing the mamba mean? "Marconi" is referring to the radio itself. It plays a deadly snake. The snake - the mamba - is slithering from the speakers. Ready to kill greedy corporations. Ready to free the world of all that is evil, and to leave behind only the youthful idealism encompassed by the tenets of rock and roll.

Who the fuck would expect a bit of Martin Denny in the middle of that song? What an inspired arrangement.Heston wrote:Yes, love it.eumaas wrote:The exotica break in "Moonage Daydream" is fucking awesome.

Bowie is God.

Bowie is God. There are no two ways about it. If you haven't, pick up Loving the Alien so you can see just how superhuman he was in the 70s, and how he lived The Man Who Fell to Earth in the 80s.

I also love the heavy delay on the vocals as the track reaches a climax, PANTASTIC!

I urge a little caution here, God would never have appeared with Mick Jagger in the Dancing In the Street video.

Listen, the Abrahamic omnipotent infallible god is the wrong model here. Think more along the lines of the Olympians or the Aesir and Vanir.Heston wrote:I urge a little caution here, God would never have appeared with Mick Jagger in the Dancing In the Street video.

Ok, I've done that and still consider Bowie's involvement a travesty.eumaas wrote:Listen, the Abrahamic omnipotent infallible god is the wrong model here. Afterwards: a rebirth.
