Dog in a Satellite lyrics?

Post by xtopher »

Wonderful tune, and I've made a go at the words...I did pretty well in parts, but there are swaths ("For Schtoon Diego" - ???) where I'm phonetic at best.

The bits in red are the ones where I think I am most off, but feedback, edits and suggestions are welcome for all of it.

thanks - chris

Dog in a Satellite

And TV stations
Light up the room
See the blue lights
Shine out in Kowloon

No flying saucers landing
Chainsaws at the ready
Cutting up the cattle
And be looped down in the netty

Oh, if I had a horse
And a ranch, of course
I would go hunting for that spaceman
With a shotgun and a torch

I hope that it's not mama's
For the children in Peru
I hope they seeking
and this boogie too

This is from the dog in the satellite
Forgotten by you all
For Schtoon Diego
Daddy did the crawl

Am I a husky from Nebraska
Or a husky from the steppes?
I came on you in sit joy
And I haven't give up yet

Somebody say yeah
I've had enough of nyet
I'm walking out all over
On this sad room set

Don't shoot me with the laser
You gotta who with the two
And on the doggone open once
I keep that ready gun can hold

I only have a tv
and some calcium
and the turks and model
of a planetarium

This is from the dog in the satellite
Forgotten by you all
For Schtoon Diego
Daddy did the crawl

I see you jam the beaches
I see the hurricanes
Seen the drug boats running
Down the Spanish main

I see the rosey lighters
The desert fields of war
I see the man that brings
And the man in the door

I see the lousy rider
Each for is forty four
And that harry way go
Flying down to Papa Doc's a wall

I see them signing up there
I see them signing in
And not too many drifting
With that better me

This is from the dog in the satellite
Forgotten by you all
For Schtoon Diego
Daddy did the crawl

This is from the dog in the satellite
Forgotten by you all
For Schtoon Diego
Daddy did the crawl

It's a damn good song. Shame it was never knocked into shape.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

Have you thought about finishing it as an Indieground thing, like with 7 Years? Amazing work on 7 Years...I put it on a mixtape for my kids, and it's been a big hit with them.

I have mentioned to Seb in the past. This is a little reminder if he reads it. The lyrics would help though

If you do, consider sampling the Mighty Sparrow song Russian Satellite. According to TeddyB (and Elvis Costello), this may have been the inspiration for Joe's lyric.

Dog in a Satellite (Strummer/Jones)

As TV Stations light up the room
See the blue light shine out in Kowloon
No flying saucer’s landed
Chain saws at the ready
Cutting up the cattle
Eating blude down in the levee (blude: cattle blood and viscera)

Oh if I had a horse and a ranch of course
I would go hunting for that spaceman
With a shotgun and a torch
I hope there’s enough mamas
For the children in Peru
I hope they think of me and Miss Piggy too

This is from the dog in the satellite
Forgotten by you all
Launched in the year your daddy did the crawl

Am I a husky from Nebraska
Or Russkie from the steppes
I cabled you in Central and I haven’t give up yet
Somebody say yeah
I’ve had enough of nyet
I’m barking out all over
On this Salt 2 set

Don’t shoot me with the laser
You gotta fool with your tool
But I’m the doggone all-bit one
So keep that ray gun cool
I only have a TV and some calcium
And a ten cent model of the planetarium

This is from the dog in the satellite…

I see you jam the beaches
I see the hurricanes
I see the drug boats running down the Spanish Main
I see the rosy light touch the tender fields of war
I see the miner freeze at the mountain door

I see the lousy writer reach for his 44
And like Hemingway
Go flying down to Papa Doc’s war
I see them signing up and I see them signing in
I’m hooked up to a drip made of methamphetamine

This is from the dog in the satellite…

Great song.

Thanks, Teddy...I really appreciate it. I definitely would not have figured out some of this in a million years.

It is a wonderful song, and it's amazing Joe went from writing the overwrought lyrics of CtC to this in 18 months. His creative tank certainly refilled quickly after Clash II broke up, although it may have been working again with Mick. Did Mick contribute to the words at all? His singing is excellent on it, even if it's just a demo.

Happy to oblige, Chris. I’m not sure if Mick was involved with the words. They seem very Strummer-like to me. As for the track, the master sounds far better than the air check from Don’s radio show. I think it’s releasable as is, and it’s sad so few have heard it.

Is the master you mention the same demo recording with vastly better clarity, or a more fully realized version of the song? Either way, it would be wonderful if Mick released this. Maybe the Joe Strummer 003?

Same recording. Better clarity. Better stereo separation.

with a better source i m for a remix here !
i tried with the version i got but it's not good enought unfortunaly
it's a cool track
the lyrics meaning surely escape me but not the chords progression the pure mick pop melodic and voice quality !
can be a pure Clash 86 track for sure

I realise that it's not likely to happen now, but the idea of a Legacy Edition of No.10 Upping St is still very appealing to me...
