Is Angies still there? That was a great place to be in a Sunday. All the Irish musicians that were playing in London would turn up and they would just jam all afternoon for fun.
I only pass through the area once in a blue moon these days, and did so last week which is when I saw the boarded up Chippenham and Costa Coffee-fied PoW, for example.
I couldn't see at the time but I'm pretty sure Angies is still going. There's recent write-ups on it online anyway, if you google it.
I've never been inside and it seems it doesn't do cask ale which is a bit of a turn-off for me, although Guinness is a decent alternative. But your description - which may be a bit out of date these days - and other reviews suggest I should check it out. These back-street gems are getting harder to find.
I haven't been in there in 20 years ( can't believe it is that long) but very Irish as opposed to faux Irish so you only go in there to drink Guinness.
