Hopefully, this is the start of some renewed live activity from the man. Agreed, weird gig though.

Here in my (ever-rapidly yuppifying) neck of the woods, we actually do quite a bit of that kind of stuff -- we have a lot of wineries in this area, and a lot of them do feature live music. The Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra also does a summer concert program -- often featuring chamber music, quartets, and the like -- with light food and wine as part of the deal.

The only difference here is that a) Mick isn't appearing, and b) they can't quite charge what they're charging. ....but, in any event, the connection isn"t as far-fetched as you might think, at least not here.

There used to be a bar in Westbourne Park / Westbourne Grove called Beach Blanket of Babylon, I can't believe there are two bars with that name?

So there are two bars called Beach Blanket of Babylon. The original in Notting Hill (which I remember) and now in Shoreditch opened by the same people. Possible Mick knows them from Notting Hill then?

ABOUT BEACH BLANKET BABYLON

BBB is more than a bar or restaurant. It’s a lifestyle, a club for the discerning without requiring a membership. It offers a cool, hip environment to relax in by day over breakfast or lunch, and a destination by night for the well-heeled socialite.

With venues in both West and East London and a world renowned bar offering the best, most luxurious Champagnes, wines and cocktails, BBB is a favourite of both locals and international clientele alike. Serving modern British and European cuisine and having an array of private rooms and event spaces, BBB is ideal for a decadent night out as well as private dinners, parties and all manner of occasions and celebrations.

Our History

Beach Blanket Babylon, or BBB as it’s affectionately known, was established in Notting Hill in 1990. BBB Notting Hill occupies an old Georgian Mansion house in the heart of the Royal borough, it has become an institution of the London restaurant, bar and club scene.

In 2007, following on from the success of the Notting Hill venture, the owners decided to open a sister BBB in the newly hip and fashionable Shoreditch in London’s East End.

Occupying several floors, BBB Shoreditch is equally as glamorous. Gone are the swags and tails of Notting Hill in favour of an eclectic, downtown New York style warehouse – over the top, opulent and characteristically cool.

Ditto.
