Good interview, probably the most I've seen him discuss the illness. Scary how bad it had gotten, and such a shame it robbed Mick of his range. I was always extremely impressed with how he had sounded on the reunion, best vocally he had been since he was sick.

A bit sad to read and realise it was actually so close to the end.

It was interesting to read about the nerve damage Mick suffered from his illness and maybe the treatments used to save his life could also have made this worse.
I imagine the damage would have been in his hands and feet. As a pro musician to lose sensation in your hands would have been very traumatic. Picking up the guitar and still being able to play must have been a very emotional moment.

Absolutely. I see Brain Setzer has reported he has some form of auto-immune disease affecting his hands, and has had to stop playing to undergo treatment. It must be devastating.Telecaster wrote: ↑16 Feb 2025, 3:53amIt was interesting to read about the nerve damage Mick suffered from his illness and maybe the treatments used to save his life could also have made this worse.

Thanks YoungParisians for the article. I remember reading several reports at the time about Mick's illness, but not this one.

That's very sad news about Brian Setzer. He has battled with tinnitus too. I wish him a speedy recovery.

The sad thing about Mick's illness was he was sounding the best he'd ever sounded, vocally, just before it. I know Tighten Up has a weedy production but his singing on stuff like Applecart is fantastic. And V13 iive from the Bradford shows exactly strong his voice was pre-pneumonia.

It's what absolutely kills me that there's only 4 recordings from that tour. They sounded absolutely fantastic in those shows, Mick's vocals especially as you pointed out. I'd love to have a full Bradford recording.Heston wrote: ↑17 Feb 2025, 3:28amThe sad thing about Mick's illness was he was sounding the best he'd ever sounded, vocally, just before it.
