Clash on Mastermind tonight, 8pm BBC 2
As a specialist subject.
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

They were all pretty easy, not really worth typing out. The lad got one question wrong which was which festival was Topper's last gig with the Clash. The hardest question was where was the dole office where they first met Strummer.
I got full marks by the way.

Don't know the last one. My first thought would be Camden Town, but Ladbroke Grove seems the obvious answer.Heston wrote:They were all pretty easy, not really worth typing out. Even Mastermind has dumbed down now, I recall a guy choosing the Clash as his specialist subject 25-30 years ago and one of the questions was about one of the stations mentioned in Version City. Like, proper tough questions.
A few questions I can remember:
Who came up with the band name?
What city did they play their debut gig?
What was the name of the EP released in 79?
What Combat Rock song reached no.30 in 1982?
What single was released without the consent of the band by the record company?
Who was the legendary R&B musician toured with the Clash in 79?
What was the name of the triple album they released in 1980 Duh!
Kicking himself for not getting Lochem. Didn't know the dole office one either, would have guessed Notting Hill but nearer the Regent Park side

Re: Clash on Mastermind tonight, 8pm BBC 2
was surprised at how easy the questions were. Am sure they were tougher the last time The Clash was a specialist subject - e.g. "how much in royalties did the band waive in order to release Sandinista for a fiver?"
the guy answering the Clash questions fell apart big time on the general knowledge round so we won't be seeing him again.
On a side note, I was pleased to get 4 questions right on The Spanish Civil War and 1 right on Lord Peter Wimsey

Someone else on Mastermind tonight answering questions on the Clash, BBC2 8pm. I don't think it's a repeat.
One of the other specialist subjects is Dr Who, the nerds on here might be interested to know.

Was that in RLGIT or something? I think I have an encyclopedic knowledge of the band, but that's a bit obscure for me.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.
