Sandinista! Which format?
Re: Sandinista! Which format?
I would only remove mensforth hill, silicone on sapphire and version partner, and replace them preferably with three rockers SGM-style. Broadway is an atypical Clash song which I find beautiful and with a great vocal delivery from Joe.

I don't generally mind the petering off around side 5 and certainly 6, but a more concise album with Bankrobber and Torchlight added could be kind of fun.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

Nah. I don't know what it is, I just never rated Broadway. The melody and chords are just too monotonous. Some good lyrics, but they can't save the song for me.Chuck wrote:What about live? I agree with the latter observation, and apparently, Joe must have felt likewise -- or they wouldn't have done that song quite so much during the Clash II era. Funnily enough, I didn't notice Broadway so much during my first month or so of listening, but once I did, I was pretty well sold. But that's just me!I would only remove mensforth hill, silicone on sapphire and version partner, and replace them preferably with three rockers SGM-style. Beware the beast Hoyston, for he is the Devil's pawn. Alone among God's primates, he plays music for sport or lust or greed. Yea, he will force you to listen to appalling music to possess your soul. Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his music appreciation and yours. Shun him; drive him back into his Starship for he is the harbinger of death.Heston wrote:matedog wrote:Hoyston.

Re: Sandinista! Which format?
It would've made a fine double. With all the weird shit given away as a free 12''. No fucker would've grumbled about Mensforth Hill and the like if it had been a freebie and didn't fuck up the running order.
I bought it the day it came out 12th December 1980. I put it on the turn table and I think it's still playing.....

Now I can see why you might listen to Sandinista! Improves side 5 of the album substantially with that...Marky Dread wrote:Nah my copy had a jump on Mensforth Hill.Dr. Medulla wrote:Your neighbours must love you.
