The Lion Sleeps Tonight was actually terrible but also compelling in a very odd way, Fantasy Island was just regurgitated Abba vomit, deserved if not a ban then at the very minimum a public flogging.Heston wrote:Hey, I quite liked Fantasy Island and Lion Sleeps Tonight.Low Down Low wrote:Well TOTP did ban Tight Fit too so you can't say they were all bad.Marky Dread wrote:There's been a load of poor censorship down the years. Re: Sandinista! Which format?
Yes, it could have revolutionised the show. Bands would turn up and the audience would vote either to hear the song or, if it was crap, to have them flogged instead. Although knowing some of them, they'd probably have enjoyed the flogging!Marky Dread wrote:Low Down Low wrote:The Lion Sleeps Tonight was actually terrible but also compelling in a very odd way, Fantasy Island was just regurgitated Abba vomit, deserved if not a ban then at the very minimum a public flogging on TOTP's.Heston wrote:Hey, I quite liked Fantasy Island and Lion Sleeps Tonight.Low Down Low wrote:Well TOTP did ban Tight Fit too so you can't say they were all bad.Marky Dread wrote: There's been a load of poor censorship down the years. That would've made some of those 80's shows a lot more bearable.Low Down Low wrote:Yes, it could have revolutionised the show. ok, just recvvering from another major surgery and in my opeated state I've listened to it all 4+ house and i think it's brill. Total sound collage, makes no sense but then neither do i. love it but need to be in the righ frame of mindMarky Dread wrote:Downloading now CPM cheers. Do you want my S! remaster/re sequence 9 sides version?coffeepotman wrote:Ok....bringing this back, been meaning to do this for a while but as usual life gets in the way. Now I love every second of every groove on Sandinista. I love the b sides, the extra material recorded around that time and I've always considered Radio Clash closer to S! than CR so don't flame me.
Now what to do with something you love so much for so long and I mean since the day it was released when I used to listen to sides 5 and 6 over and over again trying to figure what the hell was going on, anyway I started with great intentions to make extended versions, combine the songs with the dubs etc...but then something weird happened and I realized I loved S! so much I had to DESTROY it. So part of this is just brilliant and part of it is total trash but I had to kill it and kill it I did. It helped that I was out of my mind on opioid pain killers, actually it really helped and made some things sound better than others. I would have done more but my prescription ran out.
If you can make it through the entire thing, my congratulations to you, but skip around there are some jems there. Everything is directly from the clash, no added beats or anything except the final song which is a remix of Mag 7 that I found on the internet that I liked.
It's worth a try, especially if you are not in your right mind.
