C was the first version I had, so it's my favorite.

Crazy idea, and the timeline is wrong, but if you want the cover to match the musical theme of the album, the following shifts would make more sense:

S/t: works as is

Rope: Give it the London Calling bass-smash picture. Keep the non-Asian font. Brutal rock music.

London Calling: Use the LC single cover. AM radio tribute.

Sandinista!: Use the Rope cover with the S! font. Third World musical tourism.

Combat Rock: just fucking scrap the damn cover and start over.

CtC: Retitle it Clash By Night and put the maniple photo on.

That actually makes a good deal of sense. LC could be tuffer tho.
Look, you have to establish context for these things. And I maintain that unless you appreciate the Fall of Constantinople, the Great Fire of London, and Mickey Mantle's fatalist alcoholism, live Freddy makes no sense. If you want to half-ass it, fine, go call Simon Schama to do the appendix.

I know I'm in the minority, but I think the Clash look badass on the Combat Rock cover.

The CtC cover is putrid whichever way you dress it up.

Yeah, that's why the LC album cover is great as it is.
