Grosse Pointe Blank.

Post by CorwoodRep »

I was watching it earlier and there's a Clash poster, but it's a Clash II poster.

This film is now upgraded from "greatest movie ever made" to "greatest artistic achievement ever."

Whoever did the set design for that movie deserves an Oscar.

I haven't seen that film in a while. I wonder if you can synch it up with CTC in a meaningful way. Is there a point in the film in which Cusack longs for the prairie?

Well, he did claim to enjoy killing things, so you could argue he's a Bernie Rhodes allegory.

Have been on a soundtrack kick lately and came across this:

https://www.allmusic.com/album/grosse-p ... 0000092707

Did Joe pick the songs for this soundtrack/write music for it/both?

I know War Cry is on GPB vol 2.

Is it just me or do the Clash tracks in the movie sound sped up?
There's a tiny, tiny hopeful part of me that says you guys are running a Kaufmanesque long con on the board

I think someone attached to the film/Joe mentions in Redemption Song that he'd worked up bunch of tracks (incidental music?) for GBP, but it didn't end up fitting the movie and they only ended up using War Cry. Not 100% on this, but IIRC they let him pick the songs for the soundtrack as a sort of consolation?

The snippet of a Joe track that’s playing at the cemetery sounds interesting, hope it’s in the archive for 002🤞🤞

No idea but it does read like a list of songs Joe would have approved of. Listening back forgot how much I liked the Faith No More track. I assume the studio would basically have copyright on any of the stuff Joe produced for the score? If any of it still exists, that is.

The soundtrack makes for a nice mixtape with a few missteps -- never been a fan of GNR and I get the feeling they wouldnt be on here had they not tossed in a couple bars of reggae in this song for no apparent reason.

AFAIK this is the only real release that lumps Clash ska with the 2 tone movement. I know at the time they wanted to eschew the association, but it's obviously natural -- and good sounding.

Didn't Paul McCartney & Wings' original go into a reggae break at the same point? Paul always seemed to think he had a feel for and ability in reggae. Can't really agree on the strength of 'Ob La Di Ob La Da' or 'C Moon', and even when he somehow got Linda into a studio with Lee Perry the results are still poor - although I don't think Scratch had much to work with.

Live and Let Die is used well in the movie but yeah, it doesn't really fit in on the soundtrack album.
